ELME Metall has completed a major environmental project, within the framework of which in the first quarter of this year a modern hot dip galvanizing fumes extraction & scrubbing system has been introduced in the service centre in Vilnius. The total investment amounted to over 174,000 euros, of which 94,761 euros will be allocated by the Environmental Projects Management Agency of Lithuania.
The main purpose of the new system is extraction of fumes and vapours of the hot dip galvanizing baths, scrubbing and discharging of purified fumes into the atmosphere as well as outside-air intake for workshop supply along with a heating option.
According to Sergej Legenzov, Director, UAB Elme Metalas Service Centre, the principle of scrubbing the hazardous volatile substances is quite simple. Chemically contaminated vapours and fumes of galvanizing baths enter a special exhaust system, namely, a white fumes filter, where they are purified, and then into bag filters with which the new system is equipped.
Introduction of the new system will enable to reduce the level of hazardous substances of company’s emissions. In addition, it will supply purified outdoor air to the production department along with its heating option.
“Support from the Environmental Projects Management Agency is an important and necessary link in the effective development of both the company and its environmental projects and programs. Indeed, it is difficult to implement such initiatives without an active stand of the state,” Sergej Legenzov comments.
UAB Elme Metalas, in cooperation with the Environmental Projects Management Agency, aims to decrease environmental emissions, to improve indoor and outdoor air quality in production, and to reduce consumption of energy resources for heating of industrial premises.
