International Conference of Eurometal – Regional Meeting Nordics 2019- was held on May 22 and 23, 2019, and brought to Helsinki over 80 participants, representing Europe’s largest integrated iron-and-steel works, leading European traders of rolled metal products, universities and research institutes of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Denmark, Germany, Austria and other European countries. The representatives of Elme Metall group – Maxim Lvovsky, head of supply department, Algerd Andruškevitšus, board member of Elme Metall and Priit Tiru, director of Elme Metall Finland OY – also took an active part in the conference.
During the morning session, scientists and businessmen spoke about the outlooks for the global steel market development, as well as the main aspects of pricing in the era of information technology. The afternoon session focused on the Baltic countries and Northern Europe.
In his speech, Maxim Lvovsky, head of supply department of Elme Metall, outlined the key characteristics of the steel market in the Baltic Sea region: consumption volumes, development trends, overcapacity and Scandinavian influence.
During the panel discussion, the participants considered the trends in the development of the metallurgical industry, expressed their attitude on European market protection and protectionism, import and export of steel flows between Europe and Turkey.
The next regional conference of Eurometal will be held in 2020 in one of the countries of the Baltic region.
There are 15 enterprises and service centres under the management of the Elme Metall group, operating in Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Finland and in Kaliningrad oblast of Russia.
